The Overlooked City

by ~Itchitaka

The Overlooked City

Oh would you please follow me down
To the Overlooked City?
It can be found somewhere between
Here and There,
The Now and the Then.
Look closely and you will see.

Oh would you follow me down
To the Overlooked City,
And look upon the overlooked people
And their overlooked lives?
I am sure that their faces would brighten
If someone would simply
Notice.
Will you be the first?

Look upon
Their overlooked buildings,
And their overlooked homes.
Why do they sway so?
Are their overlooked walls
So fragile?
Close your eyes,
Make a wish,
And blow them down.

Would you follow me down
To that Overlooked City
To watch the overlooked children
Play their overlooked games?
They smile and they dance,
As children should,
But no one is there to see.
Shall we be the first
To join them?

Watch the overlooked lovers
Love their overlooked loves.
Why are they forced
To meet and part
In secret?
Called away by their overlooked families,
With their overlooked prejudices.
Though they may betray,
Their overlooked traditions,
Are they so wrong?
Could we set things right?

Please follow me down
To the Overlooked City
And enjoy an overlooked parade.
Look at the overlooked balloons
Float silently overhead.
All their overlooked colors
Rising higher and higher,
Only to burst somewhere in the sky.
Unseen and unheard.
Their overlooked remains
Doomed to slowly fall
To the ground below,
Where they will be forever trampled
By overlooked feet.
Why don't you help me catch a few?

Enjoy an overlooked celebration
Celebrated by overlooked celebrants.
They raise their overlooked hands
To the sky,
Praying that their overlooked hopes
Will someday be heard by someone
Passing above.
Praying that their overlooked letters,
Bearing their overlooked dreams,
Would someday be read
By someone who cared.
Someone who would seek to aid them
In their overlooked plight.
Maybe you should take the time
To read a few?

Read some overlooked poem
Written by some overlooked poet.
Their overlooked words
Threatening to break down the barrier
Between your overlooked reality
And their overlooked fantasy.
Are you really that afraid
Of falling in?

Yes, follow me down
To the Overlooked City,
So you can see how it feels.

I wrote this poem on a sunny day. I was sitting on a bench, off to the side, and listening to music. I would like to thank Laughing City by Eisley for giving me the idea of a city theme.

It's funny how something so big, could be so overlooked. The next time you go outside... I want you to stop... and take it all in.

This wonderful, you're a brillaint poet!
I love the repitition and your words just flow like a lazy sea breeze

He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart. And in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us. By the awful grace of God.

I like it. Seems that city overpopulates our world. Nice flow and repitition.

Longer than usually takes my fancy, but you did well.
Reminded me of how we just go outside and do whatever we were planning to do, without noticing what's around. Then, at other times, I like suddenly realise my surroundings. (and depending on the location, be in awe)
