"Snowfall on Unfamiliar Ground"

Alas, alas.
Oh woe is me.
For what joy is there for snow that has fallen...
On unfamiliar ground?
Snow that is trampled,
By unfamiliar boots?
Snow that is balled up,
By the unfamiliar little gloves...
Of unfamiliar little children?

I had settled in,
The cold air my roots,
And gray clouds my sustainers.
The fading imprint of snow angels as familiar,
As the young ones who left them.
Oh how nice that little town was.
Where did it go?
Was it swept from the cold surface?
As dust is swept from a tabletop
Long forgotten and barely used?

Oh how cruel this world is.
Where the young become old,
And the old wither away.
Leaves in the wind.

Oh what would I give?
To just stay in one place forever?
And escape the Sun's shining return,
Before it whisks me away once more.
