Blue Skies

I remember when we'd look to the bright blue sky,
And imagine that we too could fly.
I never thought we'd get this high,
But how come we're falling now?

On the hood of your pure white car,
We'd look up to our special star.
I never thought we'd get this far.
Why are we stopping here?

And thus at that time I did say
Those frigid words that sent you away;
To some other time on some other day.
Will I ever see you again?

I barely felt my knees hit the ground,
And in my ears my heart did pound,
As I listened closely for the slightest sound.
Why didn't you have anything to say?

On that day, I was reborn.
For from my chest my heart was torn,
And set adrift on a sea of scorn.
Has forever come so soon?

And as I mark my calendar for another year,
I sift through the silence and can almost hear
The sound of your voice with all its cheer.
When did I let myself forget?

Now I search for warmth in this numbing air
And my mind carelessly wanders to those days so fair,
To those bright blue skies we used to share.
When did they become so gray?

And when will the sun come out to play?

Author's Comments

I wrote this while remembering another time. A time I doubt I'll ever find again. It didn't start off sad, but it became that way as I kept going. I suppose that's just the way it is. I mean, who starts off being sad? You have to know some happiness first. Right?

Ah well, I hope you enjoy it. Hopefully I can get back to writing for "The Death of a Ne'er Well" soon.

Wow! I love the way you closed it! The 4th stanza is a little off, but not much! I really like the way it all flows so well! Great formating!

And in the daylight we can hitchhike to Maine
I hope that someday I'll see without these frames
And in the daylight I don't pick up my phone

Yeah, I was thinking about removing the 4th but I decided to keep it at the last second.

Thank you! :]
