"A Man-Made Angel"

A man-made angel
is riddled with faults.
For man himself is corrupt
and corruption cannot breed perfection.
It can only breed illusion;
a fake perfection that only serves to keep us going
and keep our fragile souls from losing their way.
But the world itself is nothing more
than an illusion created by the unknown.
And yet we are still satisfied.

Does that not mean that I should be satisfied with you?
My own man-made angel?
I have seen your wings with my own eyes;
Are they not real?
Are they just another illusion;
crafted by the mind of a foolish dreamer?
I have seen the purity in your eyes
and felt the gentleness of your touch.
Are they just another mirage?
Images created by the mind
that cloud the judgment of the heart
and cajole it into loving the unreality?

I tire of this dreadful waiting.
Why won't you tell me now?
Are you not my man-made angel?
The product of my imagination?
How foolish of me to imagine your obedience.
For it is the greatest illusion of them all.
You have a mind of your own
and a heart of your own.
I desperately try to control them,
to tip the scale in my favor,
but it is invisible to mine eyes.
The only one who can manipulate one's feelings
is one's self.

And because of that I am doomed.
Doomed to suffer in my silent prison
until you return with the keys to my cell.
Sometimes I wonder if I truly want escape?
Because you are mine now.
Because with escape comes complexity.
How will I fend for myself outside these prison walls?
We shall see...
And you will be the one to open my eyes.
